Attack-move is an order that moves your champion toward a point while it attacks the first valid enemy it finds, so one click both aims and fires. Set up well, it removes the misclicks that walk a ranged carry into the enemy team.
What it is
A plain right-click on the ground is only a move. A right-click on an enemy is an attack. Attack-move is a third order: your champion walks toward the point you give while scanning for a hostile within acquisition range, and attacks the first one it finds. Hostile includes champions, minions, turrets, summons and wards.
There are two forms. The regular attack-move key, A by default (X also works), shows your attack range and then needs a left click: click a location and it scans near your champion; click a unit and it attacks that unit directly. The attack-move click skips the key press: the cursor position when you press it counts as the selection. Its default is Shift plus right-click.
This is different from kiting. Kiting is the rhythm of attack, move, attack. Attack-move is the input you use for the attack half and the settings that decide which target it picks. A good setup means the attack half never goes to the wrong unit or walks you forward.
How to do it
- Pick one attack-move input and stay with it
Choose between the A key followed by a left click, and the attack-move click on a single key or mouse button. Open Settings, Hotkeys, and find Player Attack Move Click and Player Attack Move. Whatever you choose, use the same one every game so your hand does it without thought.
- Bind it where your hand rests
The default attack-move click is Shift plus right-click, which is awkward. Rebind Player Attack Move Click to a key or a side mouse button your hand already rests on, so one press attacks and your right-click stays free for moving. Test it in the Practice Tool before relying on it.
- Consider Bind auto attack move to left click
At the bottom of the Hotkeys tab, Advanced Keybinding Options lists Bind auto attack move to left click. It makes a left click the way attack-move commands are confirmed. Try it in the Practice Tool and keep it only if the result suits your hand.
- Turn on Attack move on cursor
In the Game tab of Settings, Attack move on cursor changes what attack-move scans around. With it on, it can pick the nearest target in a circle around your cursor instead of only around your champion. If it finds nothing near the cursor, it falls back to your champion's position. This is how you choose the target by aiming.
- Put the cursor next to the unit you want
Because attack-move takes the nearest enemy to the cursor, a tanky champion beside your target can absorb the shot. Before a fight, hold the cursor beside the champion you want, not on the ground between two enemies. In practice this one habit matters more than any key choice.
- Know what happens when nothing is in range
If no hostile is found, the order is still a move toward the point, so your champion walks forward. Never aim attack-move at the ground in front of an enemy team. If you want an order that cannot walk, bind Player Attack Only Click, which does nothing unless a target is under the cursor.

Common mistakes
- You attack-move at empty ground ahead of the fight. It becomes a walk toward the enemy. Aim next to a unit, or use Attack Only Click.
- You leave Attack move on cursor off. The scan then favours whatever is nearest your champion, often a minion. Turn it on and aim by cursor.
- You put the cursor on a tank next to your target. It takes your shots. Move the cursor beside the champion you actually want.
- You change binds mid-session. Your hands then hit the wrong key in a fight. Choose once and practice it.
- You assume attack-move kites for you. It only orders the attack. You still alternate it with a move click.
Practice drill
- In the Practice Tool, place an enemy dummy and a few minions around it. With Attack move on cursor on, attack-move with the cursor beside the dummy and check that every shot goes to it. Repeat with the cursor beside a minion to see the difference.
- Play a custom game with your final binds and for the whole game use only that input for attacks. Success is no attack-move that walks you into an enemy you did not mean to approach.
