Our Read on Akali
Reading the Numbers
Akali sits in both top and middle lane, which means any single figure for her is an average over two quite different matchups. She is an assassin who runs on energy instead of mana, and her smoke bomb, Twilight Shroud, restores energy as she throws it, so her rhythm is bursts of trading followed by a retreat rather than a long sustained brawl. The kit asks a lot mechanically, with a backward dash, a recast, a dash-in ultimate and its own recast all needing to be sequenced under pressure. Expect her results to separate comfortable players from everyone else more sharply than her raw power would suggest.
When a Teammate Locks Akali
Hand an Akali a target to hunt and she is at her best. Shuriken Flip dashes her backward while throwing a shuriken, and if the throw marks an enemy, a second press carries her onto that mark. Perfect Execution gives her a dash onto a champion and a second dash whose damage climbs as the victim's health falls, so she finishes people off better than she opens fights. Do not expect her to start your engage. Give her space to find angles on an exposed carry, share vision around the fight, and remember that stepping into her own smoke lets her slip out if things go wrong.
When the Enemy Has Akali
Watch the ground for smoke. While Akali stands in a Twilight Shroud she is invisible until she attacks or casts, and the shroud itself expands toward nearby enemy champions, so a patch of smoke near your backline usually means she is about to reposition or strike. Her damage comes from chaining dashes, which means the moment after she commits is the moment to answer: stay beside teammates, peel for whoever she lands on, and punish the flip. Her passive ring also grants speed when she moves away from it, so chasing an Akali who has already left your side tends to waste more than it wins.
